about

Bad Omens is my debut spoken word collection & I consider it a companion piece to my debut album VAMP

It's the first complete spoken word album I've recorded. A couple of years back I recorded a poetry ‘E.P’ called 'St.Valentine & the Stars of the Devil', which consisted of a few spoken word pieces and a short collage film to illustrate them. The film used old footage of Marilyn Monroe, pieces of the silent film Poor Little Rich Girl and personal footage shot on my phone at some particularly difficult times. It still exists somewhere in cassette form and on a USB I sent to a few friends…

Bad Omens is essentially a polished extension of some of those pieces with additional new poems. Half of the material came from a four day stay at my favourite hotel here in London. I trapped myself in my room after lacking inspiration for months & didn’t leave. I avoided using my phone and refused to see anyone, except of course when I was having a drink at the hotel bar.

On VAMP I tried to ensure my ideas and imagery retained a sense of beauty, or humour, even in sadness and anger. Bad Omens is different! Though there's a beautiful minimalistic soundscape to the spoken word pieces, it's all harsher, and clearer than the music I’ve created.

about

Lux Lyall London, UK

In Lux Lyall’s dark and decadent world, little is as it appears. Theatrical songs steeped in sumptuous strings owe a debt to old-school Hollywood, but have their roots in Camden’s gritty rock haunts. Lyrics littered with nods to film noir spring from modern-day issues including mental health. Even the femme fatales come with a twist – they always win the day.
